Nnnngggggghhhhhh. I want a UPS. Damn power outages.

There went the 53-day uptime... *sniff*

Huh. I guess there was homework due today in 315. Whoops, I didn't do it. Oh well.

Watch me not care.

>>>

Anyone know what "shinigami" means, if anything?

I had a really weird dream last night. My brain arbitrarily decided that "shinigami" meant "dice spirits" or "spirits of probability". (They literally looked like little dice that were running around -- think tree spirits a la Princess Mononoke, except dice.)

I was in Japan, near the ocean, and there were tons of these little dice-spirits running around, especially in the water. Though in the water, they were just playing and floating around. I remember thinking something like "huh, the waves of the ocean are governed by waves of probability". I remember that seemed like a major epiphany at the time.

Now that I think about it, it makes sense. And it's still interesting, especially if you think about probability in spatial terms.

>>>

I discovered a new effect of 12hr Sudafed last night. Even though I got a good 6 hours of sleep in total, I wasn't able to sleep more than 1 or 2 hours consecutively. I kept abruptly waking up, for whatever reason. I think it's the drugs, but maybe I'm just weird.

Maybe I should, like, pay attention to class now.

...nah.

Josh,

Shinigami, in Gundam Wing terms, and in the words of the Gundam Deathscythe Hell pilot, Duo, means God of Death.

Thanks.

I knew I had heard it somewhere, otherwise, why would my brain come up with it in a dream?

I just don't think it ever had any meaning assigned to it. Which is odd, because I don't usually remember random words that haven't had a meaning assigned to them.

And interesting new icon you have there; it looks familiar, but I don't seem to recognize it.

It, like this one, is from Crest/Banner of the Stars.

And, for your edification, in terms of the actual Japanese language, shinigami writen 死神 does indeed mean a god of death. ^_^

What a wunnerful dream. (Except you've definately been watching too much anime!) Joseph Campbell would have had lots to say about that one. I see those dice (probability) spirits in just about everything, but one of the first places I really noticed them was in waves on the sea.

Heh. I even saw someone random from Anime club in my dream, but I forget his name.

As for the waves, while I was dreaming I thought of it this way.

All the ocean is, is a mathematical function. What is the probability that a particular point in space will have water in it? You account for gravity, and the pull of the moon, air pressure, winds and whatnot. When you work out the solution to that equation, you get the ocean.

You might also have to define some sort of cutoff point, depending on how the probability field itself looks. Since I don't actually have the math background to be able to figure out what the equation is, let alone solve it, I couldn't tell you whether you'd need one or not. I rather doubt you do.

...and if that isn't evidence that my brain is fucked on Sudafed, I don't know what is. ;)

Is this a good place to further addle your Sudafucked (oo! new word!) mind by pointing out that there is an infinitesimal but nonzero probability that you will spontaneously quantum tunnel into orbit around Mars five seconds after reading this? :)

hehehehe. w00t. I've always wanted to go to Mars ... it's so delightfully red.

*stares at his LJ icon some more, and runs off to get work done*
