Happy Singles Awareness Day!

Single people, today is your day to be bitter and cynical about the fact that nobody loves you. You can wallow around in self-pity, and guess what? Nobody will blame you for it.

Just remember, kids, if you don't have a Significant Other, you're not worth anything. Why? Because you don't engage in the mass consumerism that is Valentine's Day. People like you are the reason companies like Hallmark are going bankrupt.

So get out there and enjoy yourself! And remember ... Valentine's day: It's Not Just for Couples.

This message brought to you by the damn-I-wish-I-were-double department, eggs, and the number 7.

As someone on my flist pointed out....that changes the acronym for the holiday from VD to SAD. Which is just...well...sad. *pets* I'm sorry. I bet my post didn't help any at all. I feel bad now.

It's just that I don't understand the grumpy wumpy bitterness of the holiday! Even when I was single, I didn't get it. I mean, this is the first year I EVER got flowers from my lover. And he, like the rest of the world, apparently doesn't believe in Valentine's day either, so I got them on Friday. *smiles* *sighs* OOps. Sorry.

*frowns and puts on librarian glasses*
It's an ancient ritual, you know. Feast of the lupercalia and all that. So I suggest you go chase down a few virgins and have your way with them. After all it was good enough for the Roman's....*kiss* what the heck, it's Valentine's Day...*grabs you, kisses you hard with lots of tongue and tangles hands in your hair* There. *pants* Go ye forth and ravish...

hehehe ...

This was me both being cynical, and poking fun at being cynical, because I rarely (if ever) take my cynicism seriously. ;)

I think most of the cynicism comes from my perception of the expectations of VDay; like so many others, it's been reduced to a Hallmark holiday where everyone expects everything to be perfect and then gets duly disappointed. Also, those of us who are single tend to be ignored (more than usual) on VDay. Not really a problem for me, personally, but I still get to watch all of my not-single friends flout the fact that they're not single. ;P

So I suggest you go chase down a few virgins and have your way with them. After all it was good enough for the Roman's....*kiss* what the heck, it's Valentine's Day...*grabs you, kisses you hard with lots of tongue and tangles hands in your hair* There. *pants* Go ye forth and ravish...

mmmm ... Rawr! There are probably plenty of them here, too ... this being such a Christian school and all. :p ::grins mischievously::

I agree that Valentine's Day, like other holidays has been commercialize. What I don't understand is you don't see people up in arms bitching about the over-marketing of Mother's Day. Or Father's Day. Or Halloween for that matter. All consumer-driven holidays. It pisses me off that there are holidays out there I'm not getting presents on. LoL. Ohhhh...I sense a rant coming on....to LJ! QUICK!!!

As way of a survey, what is your standpoint on Valentines?
I'm running a survey:
