Oberon's Passing

Oberon passed away this evening due to heart failure.

My parents tell me it was quiet and painless, but it was time. He kept having more and more trouble breathing, and towards the end only 1 in 4 of his heartbeats was actually moving blood. The vet (a family friend) came over and put him to sleep, to ease his passing. He will be cremated and kept with the family.

He was a valued friend and family member. May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear. At least it was painless. I still remember the death of my first cat as one of the more traumatic experiences of my life. Nor am I looking forward to the day when I get told the two cats I've had back home, now getting on in years, are gone.

Hope you're doing ok.

Thanks. I think I'm doing OK for the most part ... although I'm not sure that death is something that ever really sinks in.

We had plenty of warning, and we knew it was coming, so we had time to prepare.

I'm so sorry, lovie! Pet death just sucks no matter how old or whether or not they have been sick. In reading your linked post it made me realize a lot about having unfinished business with friends and family and I will rectify that. I'm glad your vet came to help put him at ease, no one would have wanted him to suffer. All my hugs to you, pets are part of our families too and it is never easy when a family member passes.

It does suck, but we had plenty of warning and plenty of time to prepare.

I just wish I had been able to complete all my unfinished business. The last time I visited him, he didn't seem happy and didn't really want anything to do with any human. He was physically feeling OK, but it was like he was pissed at us because we kept shoving pills down his throat. :-/ It made me sad.

But, we made him as happy and comfortable as we could, and that's all one really can do.

I know, you do babe. I was lucky to be with Chavez (my most beloved pet of all time) when he went, but that was the only time I have been with a pet that died. It's never easy to let them go. *snuggles with you*

:) Thanks. I think I will take you up on that talking thing sometime soon.

I wish I'd had the chance to be with him when he went. I wish I could've let him know that he was a good friend, and that I did care for him (even if I did have to shove pills down his throat every so often :-/). I don't know if he understood that before he left.

Want dinner tonight? (GLBU's not that interesting this week, so for once I have a free evening during the week ...)

If you need anyone to talk to, you know where I am.

BTW, I think that's probably one of the nicest things anyone's said to me all quarter. :)

Yup, today as in the 13th. I'm done with class at 6. We can meet then, or at some point after, whatever works for you. I'll swing by the computer lab when I'm done and we can figure things out from there.

Yes, I will miss him. I always looked forward to seeing him every time I went to visit the parents. But at least now he is at peace.

I think you're maintaining the best attitude that you possibly can though, so at least that is something Oberon can take satisfaction in :)
