US Citizens: Hold the telecoms accountable

Please take a moment to review and consider signing the online petition asking Congress to hold the telecoms accountable for conspiring with the government to spy on American citizens.

The EFF has an excellent background article on the spying here. If you're not already familiar with the issue, please take a moment to read the article before deciding whether to sign. Also see the EFF Deep Link to the petition.

Thanks.

Isn't that a bit like asking your right hand to agree not to shake the right hand? And yes, that was intentional ... but it just jumped right out. :) Maybe Congress passing a law forbidding the NSA from warrantless seizure of private property where "private property" includes data transmitted the way AT&T does it? aka. the big, national pipes. Somehow it sounds like we have something like that already.

Probably.

We do. Both the telecoms and the NSA broke those laws. This has become a judicial, not a legislative matter. The issue now is whether Congress will allow judicial proceedings to, well, proceed.

I have almost absolute confidence in the Supremes. Of course, the case may fall into a circuit overseen by someone like Thomas and be waft aside ... hehe.
