I've never seen someone lay out Prop 35 so clearly before. I've had a difficult time convincing others of the things that you've written here and I haven't done as good a job laying it out myself.

I think that Prop 35 mostly passed due to sensationalism and, were people to really think about what it was that was actually stated in the proposition, voters would have realized that 35 is not in the best interest of the state.

Glad you liked it.

You're probably right -- there was some sensationalism; I suspect many automatically think "child rapist" as soon as someone says "sex offender", but there is also the opposite extreme of "I'm drunk and 'hanging out' in my front yard, and the neighbor's kid happened to walk by".

I also think people probably took prop 35 at its word, and assumed that police could actually do what prop 35 implied they could do.
