Gay-bashing in Iran


As I said in a comment on that post:

I don't understand why people feel threatened by (or hateful toward) something or someone different from them. Even though I've experienced the feeling myself, I still don't understand it.

What did those two boys do to hurt the people who killed them? What did we (meaning GLBT people collectively) do to earn this hatred? I wish I understood the answers to those questions. (And yes, I am confident--perhaps irrationally--that there are answers, just not necessarily ready or rational ones.)
