I have used AIMmobile for several years now and generally like it. Your new IM policy is the correct one, and the one I've always assumed people use: if I'm up on mobile it means I'm free to be messaged, have at it!

That said, I might not be on AIMmobile too much longer. It seems there's now good software for my phone to be on real AIM all the time, so I might just swtich over to that.

Well, I've been bitched at for messaging mobile people in the past and treating it as normal AIM. So I used to just substitute "mobile" with "offline", but then I decided those people don't have a leg to stand on, 'cause they can just turn it off if they don't like it. ;)

It's just annoying from my perspective because mobile users often won't engage in conversation normally, or will choose not to respond. At that point, why advertise yourself as online at all?

For my part, you'll likely never see me on AIMmobile. I want it to be harder (i.e. require more conscious thought) for people to get hold of me when I don't choose to be online. That way they don't bug me with less-important things and I can engage more fully with whatever I'm doing IRL.
